The nineteen surviving pages of this letterbook contain sixteen letters of Captain Frank M. Cone to Captain George Baldey, an adjutant with Army Headquarters in New Orleans. The letters detail acts of violence and lawlessness of St. Landry Parrish and the local government's inability to contain the violence and punish the perpetrators. Several of the letters concern the administration and living conditions of the regiment. In addition, three period and local newspaper articles on the regiment and violence are pasted within the letterbook.
